I Can Die Happy Now….

7 Oct

….’cause I discovered THIS last night:

What is that, you ask?  Oh, that’s just 16 HANDLES’ PUMPKIN FROZEN YOGURT.  Yes, it’s true.  16 Handles has gotten into the spirit of my most favoritest season with my most favoritest seasonal flavor.

Lots of bloggers seem to lose their mind over this place, which I agree is pretty awesome.  But it’s just far enough east on the UES that I’m rarely nearby and have only been inside once before.  However, I found myself walking by it last night and on a whim, decided to pop in.

So, what you see in that bowl is “Fist Pumpkin” and also a dab of “Birthday Cake” topped with graham cracker crumbs.  It was the BOMB.

In other news, did I run this morning?  No, I did not.  Was I supposed to?  Why, yes, I was!  But not a biggie.  I was only slated for 5 miles, which I can do tomorrow.  I really wanted/needed to sleep in again this morning.  I’ve been so tired lately!  My plan was to do my miles on the day I was actually supposed to do them for my final 2 weeks of training.  Typically, I just squeeze in the required miles when I have time each week.  Anyhow, that plan was obviously derailed this morning.  Again, not a biggie and I do truly think that sleep was more important this morning, especially when it’s only 5 miles and I can easily do them tomorrow– which was slated as a rest day.

I’m looking forward to a fun weekend — dinner tonight with my 3 NYC besties at Vesta and then another dinner tomorrow night with some of my besties + T and some others at Blue Hill.  5 miles tomorrow and 12 on Sunday, which is ONE WEEK from my race!  Sunday is also Emily and Shawn’s engagement party.  You remember them, right?  They’re super cute and cool and they run together and sometimes with me.

Yay!

Happy weekend, everyone!

Meep Meep!

That’s my impression of the Road Runner, ’cause I did speedwork both last night AND this morning.  It’s amazing, the energy I can find within when I am not dreading miles upon miles upon miles of training.  I ran 7.5 last night and 8.5 this morning and now all I have is a 5-miler and a 12-miler this week!  I know that sounds like a lot (and it is!) but given what I’ve been suffering through doing, this ain’t no thang!

Anyhow, last night’s class was actually pretty awesome for once!  I really NEVER know how it’s going to go until I’m actually running, and it varies so much from week to week.  Some weeks, I seriously want to die when running with the slowest pace group, and others, I feel like a champ and run with a faster group.  Last night was a champ-night.  I ran with the 8-8:30 min/mile pace group.  Someone guessed last night that the coaches go so much faster than their pace group would imply, because the idea is that if you can run a 5K at an 8-8:30 pace, then you can do the drills faster.  Yep.  Makes sense.  Anyhow, we ran fairly slowly from where class meets  (81st and Madison) to the marathon finish, (Tavern on the Green) which was about 2 miles.  Then, we did 2 two-mile loops.  I ran up front with the coach the whole time and felt awesome!  I did the first 2-mile loop at about a 7:20 pace and the second one at 7:30 pace.  I felt awesome and honestly could have gone faster.  So this was a wonderful and confidence-building class. 🙂

This morning, I ran 8.5 miles with some striders in there– 2 reservoir loops and then the 4-mile loop in the park.  Despite last night’s speedwork, I still felt pretty decent this morning, so yay for that!

On another note, I finally busted out my new black riding boots yesterday and wore them to work.  They were a bit less expensive than the Tory Burches and I didn’t have to get them stretched for my man-calves, so yay for that!

Man-calf ready!

Bicycling and tapering

3 Oct

I ran for the first time since Thursday this morning!  Only 5 miles– from T’s place, halfway over the Q’boro Bridge, and back.  TAPER MADNESS, BABY.  I’m sure the “madness” part will set in eventually, but right now I’m delighted to not have to forsake sleeping for running this week.  I say this as someone who pulled an all-nighter last Thurs/Fri.  (Woke up at 5 last Thurs to run 9 miles, worked all day, flew to SF, went out with T and co-workers, looked at clock when going to bed and it said 2 AM, which yep– equals 5 AM NYC time.)  I AM SUPERHUMAN AND NEED NO SLEEP.  (Obvs not true, but I like to pretend it is occasionally.)

We drank a lot some of this on Thurs night, ’cause you know, when in Rome!

Anyhow, we had a great time!  My favorite part was when we rode bikes over the Golden Gate Bridge.  I am not a cyclist at ALL and I think the last time I’d been on a bike was in Paris in the fall of 2008.  So I can’t say I strapped on that helmet without trepidation, but I did not injure myself and had an awesome time!  See, thumbs up!

Also, here is a picture of me looking beautiful while running the 18-mile Tune-Up in the park last weekend.

Thanks, Brightroom!

Actually, it could have been much worse because you cannot see that my shorts are soaked (from sweat, not pee, you weirdos!)
